Sparking a movement to revitalize downtown Rochester, the rapidly growing ESL Federal Credit Union began construction on its new headquarters, which will house up to 500 employees. The construction of this project is the first significant development seen downtown in over 10 years.

The approximately 175,000-square-foot new building will give the credit union a fully operational facility in which to better serve their more than 290,000 members. With a granite and curved glass façade, LaBella Associates considered functionality and attractiveness when designing the six-story building and the 600-space parking garage.

A pedestrian bridge linking the two structures and a two-story atrium are just some of the details that make this project unique. The headquarters will house a full-service branch with loan offices and a subterranean
data center.

Focusing on long-term cost savings, the ESL headquarters is being constructed with energy efficiency in mind. Insulated windows, light sensors and energy-efficient light bulbs help minimize costs along with the ventilation system, which re-circulates warm air from the data center throughout the building. And with energy savings estimated at 30 percent per square foot, ESL is expecting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) certification.
