Orlando Lucero

New Mexico Underwriting Counsel

Orlando Lucero has rejoined Stewart as Underwriting Counsel for the state of New Mexico. He was previously Vice President – Escrow Officer for Stewart Title of Albuquerque from 2003-2012.

Orlando has worked in real estate services for more than 30 years, including 20 years as a partner and manager in several law firms. Following his nearly 10 years at Stewart, he joined a local title company as a Senior Escrow Officer and Associate State Counsel. Throughout his career, Orlando has gained significant experience in high-value real estate transactions, 1031 tax exchanges, commercial real estate lending and leasing, and development and land use.

As a sought-after expert on real estate transactions, title insurance and related areas, Orlando has served as an editor and author for several legal publications. He is an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico, teaching a class on commercial real estate.

Well-known for his extensive work in the industry and community, Orlando is active in the State Bar of New Mexico, American Bar Association, New Mexico Land Title Association and numerous other organizations. He has held many board and committee memberships, as well as officer positions, in real estate, education, fine arts, education and more. Orlando received a bachelor's degree (with distinction and departmental honors) from Stanford University, and his JD from Stanford Law School.

New Mexico State Counsel Orlando Lucero has been elected to the American Bar Association's Board of Governors. His term begins in August 2015; Lucero is also Real Property Division Vice-Chair of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section, as well as Chair of the ABA Council on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Educational Pipeline.

In addition, Lucero was recently part of an ABA production of an educational video for Hispanic homebuyers, with segments including selecting and dealing with homebuying advisors, the basics of the purchase agreement, and home purchase financing.
