HOUSTON (April 7, 2004) - Stewart International has formed a new Land Projects Division to work with municipal and national governments on developing real estate infrastructure including land registry, mapping and taxation systems.
Stewart International (Stewart Information International, Inc.) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stewart Information Services Corp. (NYSE-STC).
The new division, led by Director Tevfik Turel, combines Stewart International's former projects division with the international mapping group from Stewart Geo Technologies, another Stewart subsidiary. The division will continue Stewart International's pursuit of projects to consult with developing countries on their real estate infrastructure. The division also will work with municipal and national governments to improve land registry, cadastral mapping/GIS (geographic information systems) and property taxation systems.
"The addition of an experienced international mapping component to our land projects team gives us the tools we need to provide governments with a full suite of land information solutions," said Jeannie Osborne, president and chief operating officer, Stewart International.
"We now have all the components in place to help a local, municipal or even national government with any type of land information need, from a preliminary feasibility study to the development of custom GIS applications," said Osborne.
The Land Projects Division currently is working on the development and implementation of Stewart International's new e-government technology for land information management, landfolio™. This solution provides governments a flexible automation toolbox addressing the three core components of land information management: land maps, ownership information, and property taxation.
landfolio can operate as a fully integrated land information system, or depending on the needs of the local government, each of its three components - landcadastre, landregistry and landtax - can operate as a stand-alone application or in combination with any other component.
Stewart International was selected in May 2003 by the Organization of American States (OAS) to design a best practices model for Latin America and the Caribbean to assist in municipal management of land records and to improve real property tax revenues. The OAS pilot project is in Antigua, West Indies, where Stewart is working toward implementation.
