HOUSTON (May 17, 2005) -Sandy Seekins has been appointed vice president for emerging markets for the Western states region of Stewart Title Co.
Seekins, a California native, is working with Stewart's national emerging markets director José Menéndez to meet the needs of Stewart's bilingual customers in California, Arizona and Hawaii. She also is pursuing strategic relationships and business partnerships in those states with trade associations, lenders and real estate brokers who are working to improve homeownership in these traditionally underserved buyer segments.
"Sandy really has been working in this area since 1987, just not formally until now," said Allan Wasserman, group president, Stewart Title Co. "For seven years, she worked with Hispanic and other first-time homebuyers as a bilingual real estate agent and lending officer.
"Later in the title insurance field in the Santa Barbara area, she was very involved in leading cultural diversity efforts," added Wasserman. "She worked for five years as Stewart Title's sales manager for the Ventura County Division in California and is our region representative on Stewart's national domestic emerging markets council.
"We know from experience that she will put her heart and soul into this position," he said.
Seekins currently serves on the board of directors of the Ventura County, Calif., chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) and previously served as its secretary. In addition, she served on the cultural committee for the Ventura County Coastal Association of Realtors.
"I credit my success in emerging markets to my grass-roots efforts," said Seekins. "Coming from a Mexican-American heritage, I know first-hand the importance of homeownership to first-generation immigrants and their families. Stewart Title will continue to put programs and personnel in place that will assist all underserved minorities and immigrants - whether they be Hispanic, African-American, Asian or others - to achieve the American dream to own a home."
Stewart Title representatives have been instrumental in founding NAHREP chapters and also sit on the boards of those chapters. "We are very involved in various communities, assisting with homebuyer workshops to help real estate professionals assist all consumers in understanding the homebuying process," she said.
Stewart Title has translated its consumer brochures into Spanish, and one brochure, "Why Title Insurance," has also been translated into Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Russian. Stewart's title insurance policies are available in a side-by-side English with Spanish translation.
