HOUSTON (Oct. 4, 2006) - Stewart Title has made two significant moves in the Detroit market: John D. Tacia, president of Stewart Title of Detroit, has been promoted and now serves as agency services manager for Michigan for Stewart Title Guaranty Co., Stewart's national underwriter.
In addition, Stewart Title of Detroit has been renamed Stewart Title Agency of Michigan. Industry veteran Lisa Suhr has been hired to lead Stewart Title Agency of Michigan in the capacity of state president.
"This is a clear statement by our company about our confidence in John and how proud we are that he led the way to sustained profitability at Stewart Title of Detroit," said Tom Sagehorn, group president, Stewart Title Co. and executive vice president and mid-America region manager, Stewart Title Guaranty Co. "John is a well-rounded executive, fully capable of delivering to our agents the best of what Stewart Title has to offer - while at the same time, establishing strong internal controls as we grow our interests in the state."
As for Suhr, Sagehorn said, "We are very fortunate to have a person of Lisa's caliber join our organization. She is highly respected and has a wealth of managerial experience in generating favorable results wherever she has been in a leadership position."
Tacia began his title insurance career in 1998 as southeast Michigan agency manager and soon became director of agency services for Michigan and Indiana. He came to Stewart Title in 2003 as claims counsel for the Michigan district and was appointed president of Stewart Title of Detroit in 2004. Tacia is a graduate of Western Michigan University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School, a board member of the Michigan Land Title Association and a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Underwriting, agency development, audit services, claims, and legislative and regulatory activities will report directly to Tacia, who will report to Sagehorn. Suhr also will report to Sagehorn.
Suhr began her title career, then became a loan officer for Naples Federal S & L. In 1987, she developed what was then Landvest Title Insurance Company in Kalamazoo. The company was acquired and Suhr moved to NBD Mortgage Corp. as area sales manager, after which she served as co-owner, vice president and general manager for Title Bond. She then served as vice president, commercial/residential sales manager after it was purchased by First American Title Insurance Co.
Suhr most recently served as assistant vice president, wealth advisor for Comerica Bank. She attended Western Michigan University and is a licensed title agent and mortgage broker, as well as a Florida real estate agent.
