History

Since its beginning in 1893, Stewart Title has been providing Texans security of land ownership.

Stewart's founder, Maco Stewart, played a key role in revolutionizing the title industry by signing the state's first title insurance policy in 1905. Together with his brothers Clegg and Minor, Maco Stewart planted a firm foundation for the company's eventual growth to more than 8,500 issuing offices across the U.S. and abroad.

Today, Stewart is the largest title insurer in Texas and one of the largest of the top 5 underwriters in America. Guided by the third generation of the Stewart family, the company is qualified to issue policies in all states and conducts real estate business in Argentina, Belize, the Bahamas, Canada, Costa Rica, Great Britain, Guam, Hungary, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Slovakia and the Virgin Islands.

Texas remains at the root of Stewart's business, providing customers with approximately 300 offices throughout the state to service their needs. Stewart is proud of its family of Texas agents and looks forward to future growth across the state with new members of the family.
