Beginning January 1, 2010, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) reforms – drafted primarily to help consumers become better shoppers for settlement services – go into effect, and lenders and title agencies must comply with the new regulations. However, lenders can begin using the new Good Faith Estimate (GFE) laid out in the RESPA reforms at any time, so title companies must be ready to use the new HUD-1 Settlement Statement starting now.
