The Seagirt Marine Terminal is located on an approximate 265-acre site on the Baltimore, Maryland, waterfront. The design behind this high-tech facility originates from one simple principle – keep the cargo moving. It’s operated by Ports America®, North America’s largest port operator, under a 50-year public-private partnership signed in 2010 with the Maryland Port Authority.
Under the agreement, Ports America constructed a new 50-foot container berth, which will be able to accommodate the largest ships coming through the newly expanded Panama Canal. The berth is accompanied by four state-of-the-art, super post
Panamax® cranes. This includes three dual hoist cranes and 12 rubber-tired gantry cranes, which boast an average of 37 moves per hour at Seagirt Marine Terminal.
Currently handling 565,000 twenty-foot equivalent units a year, the facility’s practical yard layout places the storage area directly behind the berths. This further increases the productivity of the vessel loading and discharge operations. Adjacent to Seagirt Marine Terminal is the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which enhances efficiency and brings the railhead to within 1,000 feet of the bulkhead.
