Barkley named North Carolina underwriting counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Co.

HOUSTON (Oct. 25, 2007) – Jane S. Barkley has been named North Carolina underwriting counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Co. (STGC)

Barkley most recently served for eight years as underwriting counsel for Stewart Title of the Carolinas, the Charlotte, N.C., Stewart-owned office. In her new position with the national title insurance underwriter, Barkley will be working with both North Carolina independent issuing agencies and local Stewart offices.

She has 20 years of legal experience with real estate transactions, having served as lead counsel for lenders, limited partnerships, private purchasers, attorneys and other real estate clients. In addition, she has experience as counsel with another national underwriter. Barkley has hands-on experience in both urban and rural counties throughout the middle and western districts of the state.

Barkley received her undergraduate degree from Guilford College and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law. She is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education (CLE) seminars dealing with title insurance, real estate and related topics.

Her background includes serving for four years as hearing officer for all of Mecklenburg County’s foreclosures in addition to working as assistant city attorney in Charlotte, helping to amass land for Bank of America Stadium, home of the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers.
