Dena M. Cruz
SVP, Senior Underwriting Counsel – Stewart Title NCS
Dena is a graduate of the Santa Barbara School of Law who has both a real estate litigation and transactional background. Throughout her career as a practicing attorney, she has primarily focused on transactional real estate matters. She has counseled Fortune 500 clients in a number of matters, including but not limited to, title and escrow disputes, judicial foreclosure, mechanics’ liens, loan fraud and real estate tax disputes. She has also represented clients involved in the purchase, sale, leasing and financing of commercial real property.

Jim Brown
Director of Sales and Marketing - NV5 Real Estate Transaction Services
James J. Brown (Jim) was named National Director of Business Development for NV5/Bock & Clark in April 2017. Jim has been with the company since 1983 in all aspects of the survey business. Prior to his current position, he served as Director of Bock & Clark’s National Surveyors Network for fifteen years overseeing, managing, and developing the staff and Project Teams. He has been involved with the National Network since 1994 and has managed hundreds of projects and coordinated and reviewed thousands of surveys. Jim started his career at Bock & Clark as a field technician, drafter and then manager of their Mortgage Location Services Division. He was instrumental in opening three branch offices in Ohio and developing additional offices in other states.
He has spent the last several years working on business development with Bock & Clark’s sales and marketing division and strategizing business plans. Jim offers presentations on ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys and Survey Review to hundreds of Law Firms, Bar Associations, CLE Providers, Corporations and Law Schools across the country every year and has co-authored the last several versions of Bock & Clark’s Handbook for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys.
Jim’s practical surveying experience began while attending college in the late 1970’s when he began working for the Portage County Engineer’s Office in Ohio. He was a draftsman in the county map department reviewing land surveyor’s work and legal descriptions for recording and drawing plot plans. He was promoted to the position of supervisor and Assistant Tax Map Draftsman to the County Engineer, Leroy Satrom, P.E., P.S.
Jim is a native Ohioan and holds a bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University.

William C. “Beau” Byrd, II

With more than 30 years of extensive experience, Beau Byrd has represented lenders, financial institutions, borrowers, developers, and owners and investors in a wide variety of commercial real estate and commercial lending transactions, including NMTC, senior housing, HTC, retail, office, and multi-family. The experience Beau obtained as a law clerk to a U.S. bankruptcy judge and as a practicing bankruptcy attorney in the early years of his career gives him a unique advantage in dealing with commercial transactions.
Beau is a fellow in both the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, the past president of NAIOP Alabama Chapter and the twice past chairperson of the Real Property, Probate, and Estate Section of the Alabama State Bar. He has been an adjunct professor at both Cumberland School of Law and the University of Alabama School of Law. Beau is listed in Chambers USA (Band 1), 2024 Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Real Estate Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America® and Mid-South Super Lawyersand has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell®. He serves as a member (and past chairperson) of the Professional Advisory Board of Auburn University's Master of Real Estate Development program and also served as a member of the Leadership Council of Alabama Center of Real Estate at the University of Alabama.
