Building Authentic Connections That Drive Growth

In an industry defined by complexity, relationships remain at the heart of success. That belief has shaped Kim Whitlock’s 17-year journey rooted in collaboration, community and a genuine desire to help others grow.

As Stewart Agency Services’ National Strategic Director, Kim serves as a strategic liaison for title agents nationwide, focused on identifying growth opportunities, strengthening partnerships and helping title agents navigate an increasingly complex real estate landscape. Her role is to connect people to the resources, solutions and strategies they need to succeed.

One of the most meaningful initiatives she has led is the creation of Women in Title, a community designed to foster connection, support and open dialogue. What started as a small effort to connect turned into thriving network.

From supporting agents to empowering women, Kim shares how her career has evolved in this Leadership in Title interview.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in the real estate title industry?
A: Like many of us in the title industry, I found my way into it unexpectedly. At the time, I was on a waiting list for nursing school when an opportunity came up at a small local title agency, and the rest is history. Needless to say, I never went back to school!

Q: What has changed the most since you started your career?
A: Technology and consumer expectations have evolved significantly, with transactions happening more quickly, communication becoming more immediate, and clients demanding a seamless experience. Meanwhile, the behind-the-scenes complexity has grown, particularly in areas like fraud prevention and data security.

Q: Finish this sentence: Success is built on _____________.
A: Authentic relationships and a genuine drive to do good.

Q: You started Women in Title. Why?
A: I started Women in Title because I was craving something I couldn’t find in the industry at the time: A space created for women to connect openly, feel supported and have honest conversations without judgment.

I was fortunate to already have genuine friendships and connections in this industry, but I saw the need for something bigger, a community where women could show up as themselves, ask questions, share experiences, support one another and grow together. Title can be demanding, isolating and fast-paced, and I realized many women were looking for the same thing. What started as a simple idea to bring people together quickly grew into something much bigger. I am grateful every day that I took that first, uncertain step and for what we have all built together.

Q: How do you see Women in Title impacting the industry?
A: Women in Title encourages connection, collaboration and growth in an industry that can often feel fragmented. We help people build meaningful relationships, share knowledge and feel supported throughout their careers while also highlighting the incredible talent and leadership already present in this industry.

Q: The real estate market has faced challenges over the last few years. What has been the biggest challenge for title agents and clients you’ve worked with?
A: Uncertainty. Between market shifts, rising costs, fraud concerns and changing regulations, both agents and consumers have had to navigate a lot of complexity. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing efficiency and innovation while still maintaining trust and protecting consumers.

Q: What are the biggest opportunities you see in the industry?
A: I think there’s a huge opportunity for collaboration and modernization.

Consumers want to better understand the value of title insurance and the role we play in protecting property rights.

There’s also an opportunity for the industry to embrace technology thoughtfully while continuing to prioritize relationships, expertise and service.

Q: What makes Stewart unique as a business partner for title agents?
A: Stewart values relationships and teamwork. There’s a strong emphasis on listening to agents, understanding their challenges, and finding meaningful ways to support their growth. The culture promotes innovation while still recognizing the importance of people, partnerships, and service.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of your leadership role at Stewart?
A: The most rewarding part of my role is having the opportunity to help people grow — whether that’s supporting agents as they expand their business, connecting people with the right resources, or helping create opportunities that move our industry forward. I’ve always believed relationships are at the center of this business, so being able to build those connections on a broader scale is incredibly fulfilling.

Q: Stewart was recently recognized as a Forbes America’s Best Employer for Women and Company Culture in 2025. What makes our company a unique place to work?
A: The organization fosters a strong culture of support and accessibility. Employees are encouraged to share ideas, contribute meaningfully and develop new skills. The company values its people and recognizes how culture influences long-term success.

Q: And one last question, what’s your coffee order or morning drink of choice?
A: Matcha latte with almond milk.

We thank Kim for sharing her story and outlook. In an industry navigating rapid change and ongoing challenges, one thing remains clear: growth is driven by people. By prioritizing relationships, fostering community and embracing innovation, leaders like Kim are helping us be a better company and partner for title agents across the country.
